WHAT IS JUPEB?

It is the acronym Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, it is an Approved, Proven & Certified Advanced level programme moderated by the University of Lagos and having the coordinating body in various tertiary institutions and different study centres nationwide.

The programme is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for candidates who cannot gain admission to regular degree programmes in Nigerian Universities for one reason or the other, as the programme only requires candidates O’level results, JAMB result, also awaiting result candidate can Enrol and this time around into 200 level.

JUPEB Is Approved: By the Federal Government has a platform for securing admission into a higher institution in the country and abroad.

JUPEB Is Proven: Yearly, about 20,000 applicants put in for the programme in which more than 70% fraction successfully secure admission with it into 200 level to their preferred institution & course.

JUPEB Is Certified: By Nigeria University Commission (NUC) has an Advanced level examination that qualifies students into 200L via Direct Entry (D.E).

How JUPEB Works?

Prospective JUPEB candidates are required to select any THREE (3) A/L JUPEB Subject Combination plus Genel studies (English Language) identified with their preferred course of study in the university be it Science, Art or Social Science Course.

Candidates would then be lectured for the stipulated period at their respective Study Centre and thereafter sit for the final examination. On completion of the programme, successful candidates accordingly utilise their JUPEB certificate to secure admission into 200level in any Nigeria tertiary institution via Direct Entry (D.E).

JUPEB Legibility

JUPEB certificate is presently recognised and accepted in more than 70% of Nigeria federal, state and all private Universities. Thus, prospective candidates can check (item 2.2) of JAMB BROCHURE to confirm JUPEB legibility.  Read Official List of Universities accepting JUPEB Certificate here!

JUPEB Programme Duration

JUPEB A’level programme runs for a maximum period of one academic session(9-10month) divided into two (2) semesters.

JUPEB Programme Eligibility

The programme is open to all interested candidates nationwide and any course can be offered to be it Science, Art or Social Science.

JUPEB takes you into 200 level without JAMB, read more about JUPEB and how to apply here.

JUPEB, which is the full meaning of JUPEB is a programme that is being moderated and supervised by the University Of Lagos, (Unilag). Is a 9 to a 10-month course for advanced students (those who have finished their secondary school certificate) from Nigeria secondary schools to be able to be admitted into the second year at university of choice in combination with JAMB.

With JUPEB, candidates can apply and study any course with the programme at almost Nigerian Universities that accept the final JUPEB result.

Basically students who failed to use the only JAMB to gain admission into higher institution in Nigeria can use JUPEB in combination with JAMB D.E and the post UTME of the chosen university and the admission chances is way higher if they already passed through the rudiment process of registration, admission into the various centres in Nigeria, attend lectures and register for the examination and come out with good JUPEB.

Before candidates can use JUPEB to gain admission, the student needs to combine it with JAMB D.E form just like the polytechnic students.

Full Meaning of JUPEB?

The full meaning of JUPEB is Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board – it is a programme being moderated by Unilag, Lagos (University of Lagos). When I said moderated by them, I mean they supervised and monitored the programme so that it wouldn’t dwindle to the extent where other universities wouldn’t like to associate with the programme anymore.

Not only that, they formulate policies and laws that governed the programme and other essential tool kits that show the headway of the programme, as the syllabus to follow, the needed requirements by the programme, and exam time table, all is being done by Unilag.
Before we continue, in summary, the main purpose of JUPEB is highlited below:

JUPEB is a ten months program in which you or your ward will go through and make final result, probably scoring a minimum of 5 points out of the total of 16 points, you or that your child will have the opportunity of gaining admission into 200 Level of any university of choice whether is of federal, state or private universities.

That’s the main purpose why JUPEB is being the key and to some, one of the best alternative routes to gaining admission into the university in Nigeria without JAMB

Is It Only the Centre I Did programme I Can Use the Result?

A. No, you can use the result anywhere you want, even though you have done the programme somewhere else. Should I Go for Public or Private JUPEB Centres?

A. That depends on you and your finances, private JUPEB centres price might be a little higher than public centres, but the method of teaching would definitely be different. So, if you have the money, go for private. Our reasons being that

  • You will have less populated students for each class, wish to help the lecturers to interact one to one to know the area of deficiency.
  • Your practical would purely be practical, what we mean that is that there would be enough laboratory equipment that would go round for students to study.
  • You have enough space in your hostels and less unnecessary distractions from other activities that are not JUPEB base.
  • Your hostels most times within the area where you are receiving lectures, so you have less stress after lectures

Disadvantage Of Private JUPEB Centres are:

  • You might not have any approve JUPEB centres in your state/area. so, you might need to travel from your parent’s roof.
  • The lectures might be too much since no private centres we want their candidates to fail, and the only way they can do this is by intensive lecturing and monitoring
  • You do not have much freedom like JUPEB public centres.
